Mapping begins for Eco-Sensitive Zone around Van Vihar to protect wildlife

Bhopal – The district administration, in collaboration with Van Vihar, has initiated the mapping of a 100-meter Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around Van Vihar to preserve its natural ecosystem. Starting Monday, two separate teams, consisting of 15 officials from the administration and the forest department, began the process of demarcating this area. According to Archana Sharma, SDM of TT Nagar, the teams are using specialized machinery to mark the boundary and install boundary markers.

The Eco-Sensitive Zone will impose strict restrictions on any kind of activity to prevent harm to the environment and wildlife. Within this zone, activities such as large construction projects, mining, industrial operations, and deforestation will be closely regulated. On the other hand, tourism will be encouraged to promote sustainable interaction with nature and allow people to enjoy the surrounding wildlife.

Van Vihar National Park, located in the heart of Bhopal and adjoining the large Bada Talab (Big Lake), is home to a variety of wildlife, including tigers, leopards, bears, deer, and crocodiles, all of which are protected within the park’s boundaries. The creation of the Eco-Sensitive Zone aims to further safeguard this rich biodiversity.
