Massive fire in Arunachal’s Pareng village engulfs 24 houses

Itanagar, Aug 1 (UNI) Pareng, a remote village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district, was struck by a devastating fire on Wednesday night, resulting in complete destruction of 24 dwelling houses and partial damage to seven others, official sources said here on Thursday.

Two individuals sustained injuries during the incident. However, there were no reports of any human casualty.

According to a wireless telegraphy (WT) message from the Siang District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Obang Apum, the fire is believed to have originated from the unattended roasting of pork over an open fire, serving as the catalyst for the quickly spreading blaze.

Unfortunately, the lack of fire stations in the newly created Siang district contributed to the uncontrollable nature of the inferno, underscoring the urgent need for improved firefighting infrastructure in the region, officials said.

In response to the emergency, the fire brigade from neighbouring Aalo rushed to Pareng village under Boleng circle and swung into action and managed to successfully extinguish the blaze, the DDMO said.

Additionally, key officials including the Siang district Superintendent of Police Opir Paron, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tajing Jonnom and District Medical Officer Dr Tarik Talom swiftly arrived at the scene during the night to assess the situation and provide immediate relief to the fire-affected villagers.

The DDMO, in collaboration with the Siang District Students’ Union, on Thursday distributed essential commodities to the fire victims, while members of the community rallied together to offer their support to those affected.
