Bhopal, A CME on Mpox was organized on Friday at AIIMS Bhopal to boost preparedness for any potential outbreak of this disease for which WHO has recently declared the highest global alert on August 16th 2024. Inaugurating the event Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, highlighted on the need for starting preparation before any crisis happens. He emphasized that the preparation starts with quick identification, prompt isolation and thorough contact tracing of any infected patient.
Prof. (Dr) Arun Kokane, elaborated on the recent spread of Mpox around Congo and the methods of transmission of the virus. Dr. Shashwati Nema, Additional Prof. of Microbiology addressed on the sample to be collected from the patients and the laboratory tests to be performed for the diagnosis of Mpox. Dr. Jerene Mathews, Asst. Prof. of Dermatology talked about the clinical features of Mpox and how they differed from other similar diseases like chickenpox.
The CME was moderated by Prof. (Dr.) Debasis Biswas, Head of Microbiology Department who guided the discussions among the experts and encouraged active participation. The event witnessed participation from AIIMS Bhopal faculty members and various state health units such as CHCs, PHCs, civil dispensaries, Sanjivani clinics, and other private medical practitioners. Over 150 Doctors attended the CME, showcasing keen interest in learning about the latest updates on Monkeypox.
