MEITY in touch with Microsoft after IT outage, systems are partially up: Ashwini Vaishnaw

New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) Amidst massive IT outage, the government has said that the Ministry of IT is continually in touch with the Microsoft, which in turn is actively working with impacted entities.

Earlier during the day CERT-In, Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, a wing of Ministry of IT had issued an advisory saying outage of Microsoft Windows has been reported due to Crown strike agent Falcon Sensor and the government is in touch with Microsoft and its associated to for any further precaution to be taken.

The Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw wrote on the microblogging platform ‘X’ saying “In addition, CERT-In is coordinating with CISOs of critical infrastructure entities. All impacted entities are working to bring up their systems. In many cases, systems are partially up.”

CERT-In serves as the national agency for performing various functions in the area of cyber security in the country as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act.

“It has been reported that Windows hosts related to Crowd strike agent “ Falcon Sensor” are facing outages and getting crashed due to recent update received in the product. The concerned windows hosts are experiencing a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) related to Falcon Sensor,” CERT-In said in the advisory issued recently.

It said the issues occurred in the latest update of CrowdStrike and the changes have been reverted by the Crowd Strike Team.

If hosts are still crashing and unable to stay online to receive the Channel File Changes, few steps need to be taken including i) Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment; ii) Navigate to the C:\\\\Windows\\\\System32\\\\Drivers\\rwodStrike directory; iii) Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys”, and delete it; and iv) Boot the host normally.

It said that the users are also advised to check the latest updates from Crowd Strike portal.
