United Nations, Sep 24 (UNI) Lenka White – The situation in Gaza will remain as the main topic of the UN General Assembly Week despite many attempts by certain countries to put Ukraine in the forefront, Russian Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy told Sputnik in an interview.
“I’m absolutely sure that, of course, the questions of the Middle East and Gaza will be at the core of most statements during the general debate, no matter how the others would try to shift the focus on Ukraine and maybe some other issues,” Polyanskiy said when asked whether there might be a lot of action in the UN week on Gaza.
The 79th session of the UN General Assembly opened in New York on September 10. The key event of the General Assembly sessions is traditionally the high-level week – an event where heads of state and ministers gather annually and speak out on pressing issues. The annual debates will take place from September 24 to 28, as well as on September 30. The Russian delegation is led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who is expected to speak on September 28.
