Militancy causes big human, economic losses to J&K: Azad

Srinagar, May 19 (UNI) Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday said that militancy has caused big human and economic losses during the past 35 years in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Militancy caused big human and economic losses and pushed Jammu and Kashmir 50 years back”, Azad told media in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday while condemning the killing of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sarpanch and injuring the Rajasthan couple at Pahalgam on Saturday.

Militants shot dead Aijaz Ahmad, former Sarpanch of BJP at Herpora Shopian, and injured a Rajasthan couple identified as Tabrez and Farah at Yanar in Pahalgam on late Saturday.

“Militancy caused big human and economic loss and pushed Jammu and Kashmir 50 years back”, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said.

Azad said the people of the state were moving ahead, tourists were coming and that has benefited the people. Militancy is not good for Kashmir, its people, development, and progress, are bad.

Replying to a question Azad said “Pakistan never feels good if things go well here and tourists come in large numbers. I will suggest Pakistan to look into its affairs and provide the people with the basic amenities.”
