MoS Margherita to visit 5 countries in Latin America, Caribbean region

New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita will be on an official visit to the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago from August 16-24, reaffirming India’s commitment to further strengthen ties with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region.

During his visit to the Dominican Republic (Aug 15-16), MoS will attend the formal swearing-in-ceremony of Luis Abinader, President-elect of the Dominican Republic. MoS will interact with members of the Indian diaspora.

In Guatemala (Aug 17-19), MoS will call on Cesar Bernardo Arevalo de Leon, President of Guatemala. He will have a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martinez to discuss bilateral ties. During the visit, MoS will meet members of the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala, Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations (CACIF). He will also visit Antigua, the UNESCO Heritage city, a statement said.

In El Salvador (Aug 19), MoS will call on Nayib Bukele, President of El Salvador, have a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill T, hold a series of other ministerial interactions and engagements, and also interact with the Indian Diaspora.

In Panama (20-22 August), MoS will have delegation level talks with Foreign Minister Javier Martinez. He will call on Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino. He will visit the University of Panama to pay floral tributes at the Bust of Mahatma Gandhi and plant a sapling as a symbolic gesture. He will also visit Panama Canal and Panama Pacifico Free Trade/ Industrial Zone facilities and interact with the Diplomatic Community and prominent members of the Indian Diaspora during a reception hosted in the honour of MoS.

In Trinidad and Tobago (23-24 August), MoS will have a meeting with Amery Browne, Minister for Foreign & CARICOM Affairs. He will call on Prime Minister Keith Rowley. He will also interact with members of the Indian community.

The visit of MoS to these five countries reaffirms India’s commitment to further strengthen our ties with the countries in Latin America and Caribbean region. It provides an opportunity to explore and advance our partnership in newer areas of mutual interest, the statement added.
