- State Aims for global recognition of Bhedaghat-Lameta Ghat as a natural marvel
Bhopal: A consultation workshop to review the Bhedaghat-Lametaghat in Narmada Valley dossier was held at Palash Residency. The workshop was organised as a brainstorming session for the stakeholders. This intensive workshop aimed at moving a step ahead towards acquiring positions for more and more sites of the state in the permanent list of UNESCO. To gain a position in the UNESCO World Heritage list, a site has to come up with multiple criteria. Apart from being a geological marvel several dinosaur fossils have been found in the Narmada valley, particularly in the Bhedaghat-Lametghat area of Jabalpur.
Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture and Managing Director of the Tourism Board, Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, said that we are on a journey to put the maximum number of sites from Madhya Pradesh on the permanent list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The state is rich in archaeological, geological, and natural marvels, and we are continually working satisfactorily to bring them to light and place them on the UNESCO list. Shri Shukla addressed the consultation workshop to review the Bhedaghat-Lametaghat in Narmada Valley dossier at MPT Palash Residency.
Principal Secretary Shri Shukla said that the incredible sites are worth appreciation and getting recognition on an international platform like getting a position in the tentative list has motivated us to work further in this direction. It is important to acknowledge what we own and get back to our roots. In foreign countries, history and culture are well preserved, and this is our intent too. We are glad to have 11 sites on the tentative list of UNESCO and 3 on the permanent list.
Wildlife Institute of India (WII) organised a consultation workshop to review the Bhedaghat-Lametaghat in Narmada Valley dossier. The session was attended by PCCF & Head of Forest Force Shri Aseem Shrivastava, PCCF (wildlife) Shri Shubhranjan Sen, Additional Managing Director Tourism Ms. Bidisha Mukherjee, Deputy Director General ASI Shri Shubhruchi Sarkar, Dr. Gautam Talukdar, Scientist WII and other delegates from GSI, the Forest Department, ASI, NVDA, Chief Municipal Officer Bedhaghat and WII.
Geological marvel
It is noteworthy that Bhedaghat-Lametaghat, Jabalpur is a geological marvel of Madhya Pradesh included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the natural category. The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board is taking the initiative to prepare the nomination dossier of Bhedaghat-Lametaghat in Narmada Valley, Jabalpur, and Madhya Pradesh. The WII and Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board are working on the dossier which will be completed by the end of this year. Post completion the dossier will be sent to UNESCO for review and further process.
