Nakul Nath files papers from Chhindwara

Bhopal: Nakul Nath, son of former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath and a leader of the Congress party, submitted his nomination papers for the Chhindwara Parliamentary seat on Tuesday. The veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath was also present during the filing.

Following the nomination, Nakul Nath expressed confidence, stating to ANI, “I believe the people of Chhindwara will once again shower me with their love and blessings.” Similarly, Kamal Nath reiterated his trust in the people of Chhindwara, emphasizing his familial bond with them rather than a purely political one.

Nakul Nath currently holds the sole Congress MP position from the state and is seeking re-election in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the same constituency. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Vivek Bunty Sahu as its candidate against Nakul Nath, with Sahu expected to file his nomination on March 27.

Earlier, on March 18, a significant development occurred as Syed Jafar, a close associate of Kamal Nath within the Congress, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Jafar, who had held various positions within the Congress including State General Secretary and Media Vice President, took BJP membership in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and other BJP leaders in Bhopal.

The elections for the Chhindwara constituency, along with five others in Madhya Pradesh including Sidhi, Shahdol, Jabalpur, Madla, and Balaghat, are scheduled for the first phase on April 19. The nomination process began on March 20, with March 27 set as the deadline for submissions. Withdrawal of candidature for the first phase is allowed until March 30.

The Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh are scheduled across the first four phases, taking place on April 19, April 26, May 7, and May 13.
