Srinagar, Sep 19 (UNI) National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said his party is not against the reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies.
“We have never been against the women reservation as the National Conference has already implemented it in Panchayats and other places,” the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister told mediapersons in Srinagar on Tuesday.
He said, ” Where the population of our mothers and sisters are 50 percent they should be given a chance for their representation. NC has no objection with the amendment of the bill. ”
He said NC has a strong women wing in Jammu and Kashmir led by Shamima Firdous and state secretary Sakeena Itoo and they have not left any stone unturned while competing with the others.
“We have no loss with any bill..we have loss only as the administration is scared of for conducting elections in Jammu and Kashmir”, Omar said and added, “They have sat here as uncrowned kings.”
He said, “We are scared of those people who are running away from conducting elections here.”
To a question regarding Gadool Anantnag encounter, he said, “ A Colonel, a Major, a DYSP and a soldier have been killed and today it is the seventh day not a single militant has been killed from our side so far. ”
“It is evident that where is the peace in Kashmir valley… peace and tranquility is visible only in Srinagar where the people are visible playing ”, Omar said and added, “On ground zero there is no peace and that you can see at Kokernag, Uri and Rajouri.”
He said during his tenure there was not such a bad situation in Rajouri but in Pir Panjal range militancy has again grown up there.
The situation is not good as the administration is claiming, he said.
