Srinagar, Aug 19 (UNI) National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday released the party manifesto for the upcoming assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir.
The top most listed guarantee of the party included restoration of political and legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.
The party said the party would strive to restore Article 370-35A, and Statehood as prior to August 5 2019 and work for the full implementation of the Autonomy Resolution passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in 2000.
The party divided the manifesto named ‘Dignity, Identity, Development’ into three parts and the first part included has 12 promises, the second part has additional commitments and the third has detailed outlay of what NC wants to achieve.
Omar said the reality is that they will have to fight to get powers back.
“We have a fight on our hands to get our powers back and we have no doubt that we will succeed,” Omar told reporters after releasing the manifesto.
“At the very least in the first instance we will get a state back for Jammu and Kashmir. Within the state all the powers that are required to fulfill these promises are with the government of Jammu and Kashmir and we will fulfil these promises.
We only have to remind the Supreme Court that the government of India has promised the Top Court that statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir.
If the Government of India is not willing to do it, the NC will go to the Supreme Court and the party will get justice from there so that the statehood will be restored and these promises will be kept.”
The NC manifesto said in the interim period the party will endeavor to redraw the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, and the Transaction of Business of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Rules, 2019.
“The Jammu and Kashmir assembly, in its first list of business after elections, will pass a resolution against the centre’s decision to strip the region of its statehood and special status,” NC manifesto said.
It also added that the party would make efforts to modify, annul, and repeal post-August 5, 2019, laws that impact the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
“We will protect the land and employment rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” the party said.
Omar said this is not only a manifesto but an agenda of the party for governance.
“This is a roadmap for 5 years,” the NC Vice President said. “ This manifesto will be unlike the manifesto of those parties which called for Badlaav and an agenda. But a manifesto which will be worked upon after the NC forms the government,” he said.
The former Chief Minister said that they are hopeful that the party will get the votes and form the government.
“So we have made promises which we can fulfill unlike those parties who know that they won’t form the government and make tall promises,” he said.
Omar said the manifesto has been drafted after taking feedback, suggestions, and demands from thousands of people.
The NC leader also ruled out alliance with the BJP in case the election throws a hung mandate.
“We are not taking that path or are thinking on those lines,” he said.
The NC manifesto also mentioned about repealing the Public Safety Act.
