Washington, June 7 (UNI) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address a joint meeting of Congress of the United States on July 24, US House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced on social media.
“I am pleased to announce with @LeaderMcConnell [US Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell] that Israeli PM Netanyahu will address a joint meeting of Congress on July 24th,” Johnson said on X on Thursday.
The US official added that Congress looks forward “to hearing the Israeli government’s vision for defending democracy, combating terror, and establishing a just and lasting peace in the region.”
Johnson said on Sunday that he sent a draft invitation to Netanyahu back in March for consideration by the Senate, but US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer took some time to coordinate the document, after which the letter was sent to the head of the Israeli government.
On Saturday, Netanyahu accepted an invitation from US congressional leaders to address a joint meeting of Congress in support of Israel in the fight against terrorism.
