Bhubaneswar, (UNI) Odisha would be made the millet hub of the country by increasing its production and consumption, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said here on Sunday.
Inauguring the two-day International Symposium on Shree Anna and Forgotten Foods (ISSFF) organised by the state Agriculture Department here , Majhi said the state government has made a budgetary allocation of Rs649 crore in the current budget for the purpose.
The Chief Minister said 14 kinds of nutritious grains have been accorded the status
Shree Anna and being cultivated across the state.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister urged the women of the state to offer food prepared from millet before Goddess Lakshmi on the occasion of the upcoming ‘Manabasa Gurubara’ festival.
”I request all the mothers and sisters to offer millet before Goddess Lakshmi on the special occasion and serve food prepared from millet to all the members of the family,” the Chief Minister said.
“The initiative will go a long way in promoting the use of millet in the coming days,” he added.
