- Two arrested in inter-state cyber fraud operation
Bhopal, – Crime Reporter
Bhopal Cyber Crime Branch has cracked down on an online job scam by arresting two key members of a cyber fraud gang operating under the guise of “task completion” jobs. The arrests were made from Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Sridungargarh, Bikaner (Rajasthan).
The accused have been identified as 32-year-old Kanakbhai from Ahmedabad and 22-year-old Hansraj Godara from Sridungargarh. The police recovered a mobile phone and a SIM card used in the fraud. The gang used Telegram to create groups and lure people with offers of earning money through simple online tasks such as booking and rating flight tickets.
Victims were first asked to register through a fake website. Initially, small payments were rewarded with higher returns to build trust. Once convinced, victims deposited larger sums. However, when they attempted to withdraw their earnings, they were told their “task score” was too low, effectively locking them out of their funds.
Both arrested individuals had allegedly rented out their bank accounts for the transactions.
The investigation was initiated after a complaint by Pooja Dwivedi on November 7, 2024. She lost Rs 5,94,795 to the fraud in multiple installments, after being added to a Telegram group and tricked with a fake work-from-home offer.
