Opposition MPs slam Budget, demands more funds for social sectors

New Delhi, July 26 (UNI) Participating in the discussion on Union Budget 2024-25 in Rajya Sabha, the Opposition MPs on Friday slammed the government for not addressing concerns like inflation and unemployment.

During the general discussion on the Budget, Sandosh Kumar P of CPI said that the Budget is a surgical attack on the aspirations and dreams of people.

“I have a good number of reasons to oppose this anti-people, anti-federal Union Budget,” he said.

The CPI MP also pressed for implementation of projects worth Rs 24,000 crore in the state of Kerala and pitched for a separate Budget for farmers.

AD Singh of RJD termed the Budget as ‘highly lacklustre’ and demanded more funds for social sectors such as health and education.

“This is a highly lacklustre Budget with retaliation and no innovations like the past Budget. There is not enough thrust on education, health, employment, private investment, poverty and inflation. The government is obsessed with the creation of big infrastructure projects like highways, airports, bridges etc. What we need is more money to be spent on social infrastructure like health, education,” he said.

S Niranjan Reddy of YSRCP said that on broad parameters Indian economy seems to be doing well but on a closer look, there are some concerns facing the nation.”We have been witnessing economic growth without commensurate job growth,” he said.

Reddy also flagged the issue of inequality in the country.
