Over 40 rescuers searching ground for missing Mi-8 Helicopter in Kamchatka: Ministry

Moscow, Sept 1 (UNI) Rescuers are following different routes to the supposed location of the missing Mi-8 helicopter in Kamchatka; in total, more than 40 people are participating in the ground search, the Russian Emergencies Ministry (EMERCOM) said on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Mi-8 helicopter, which was flying from the landing site in the Vachkazhets mountain range to the village of Nikolaevka in the Yelizovsky district, did not arrive at its destination. There is no contact with the crew of the aircraft. The number of people on board the aircraft is being established.

According to preliminary information, there could have been 19 passengers and three crew members on board.

“In Kamchatka, the search continues for the Mi-8T helicopter that went missing in the Yelizovsky district; rescuers are following different routes to the supposed location of the aircraft. In total, more than 40 people are involved in the ground search,” the ministry said.

The rescue group from the Kamchatka Rescue Center, which was conducting a ground search from the side of the Vachkazhets volcano, continued its movement after a forced overnight stay in the area of ​​Lake Takhkoloch. Rescuers from the joint search and rescue team and rangers on ATVs and all-terrain vehicles continued the search along a different route. Volunteers on ATVs also set out from the village of Nikolaevka to help the rescuers.

At the same time, dense fog and moderate rain are observed in Kamchatka, where the Mi-8 is being searched for, and the ministry’s aviation with rescuers on board is on standby.
