Screening committee meeting was held at Union Public Service Commission headquarters in Delhi on Thursday for the new Director General of Police of the state. In the meeting, three names have been given green signal for the new DGP of the state. It is being told that the committee has approved the names of Kailash Makwana, Arvind Kumar and Ajay Sharma for the new DGP. Now the panel of these three names will be sent back to Madhya Pradesh, where Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will appoint one of the three officers as the new police chief of the state.

State Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, DGP Sudhir Saxena and Additional Chief Secretary Home Department SN Mishra attended the screening committee meeting, while two joint secretary level officers from the Union Home Ministry, besides the member nominated by UPSC Dinesh Das, also attended. All the 9 names sent by the state government were considered in the meeting, all these officers were of Special DG level, but out of these, three names were agreed upon on the basis of seniority and merit. The current DGP of the state Sudhir Saxena is retiring on 30 November and the new DGP will take charge of the state on 1 December.

Kailash Makwana is currently handling the responsibility of Chairman Police Housing Corporation, he is a 1988 batch IPS, while Arvind Kumar is also an officer of the year 1988 batch and is currently posted on the post of DG Home Guard, similarly, the third officer included in the panel, Ajay Sharma is a 1989 batch IPS and is currently posted on the post of DG EOW. While Makwana’s retirement is in December 2025, Arvind Kumar is going to retire in May 2025, similarly Sharma will retire in August 2026.

New DGP will be appointed for a period of 2 years

According to the new criteria set for the new DGP, such IPS officers cannot be made DGP whose retirement period is less than 6 months from the appointment period. According to the new guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, the new DGP will be appointed for a period of 2 years, before that he cannot be removed. This makes it clear that any of the three officers included in the panel can get a chance to become DGP, but they will get a chance to work for a period longer than their current retirement period. According to the indications received, Ajay Sharma’s claim is considered to be the strongest among the three officers included in the panel.
