Paris 2024 Olympic Games conclude with historic success

Paris, Aug 12 (UNI) The Paris 2024 Olympic Games officially came to a close, marking the end of a remarkable and historic celebration of sport, with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach on Sunday declaring the Games a resounding success.

In his closing remarks, Bach praised the Paris Games for exceeding expectations in several key areas: inclusivity, sustainability, and innovation.

“These have been great Games. I can say sensational Games,” Bach stated.

He highlighted the event’s embodiment of the IOC’s Olympic Agenda, which emphasizes creating a platform that is “more inclusive, more sustainable, more urban, younger, and with full gender parity”.

The Paris Games were notable for their integration of French culture, innovation, and creativity, elements that Bach believes have inspired people across the globe. The inclusion of new sports like breakdancing and kiteboarding was particularly well-received, attracting younger audiences and adding a fresh dynamic to the Olympics.

As Paris passed the torch to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games, Bach expressed confidence in the upcoming edition. He encouraged Los Angeles organizers to reflect California’s unique cultural identity while embracing global diversity.

In a significant announcement, Bach confirmed that he will not seek another term as IOC President. He cited a belief in good governance and the necessity for new leadership to tackle future challenges, especially in the evolving digital landscape. “New times require new leaders,” Bach concluded.
