Philippines detects 3 new mpox cases

Manila, Sept 1 (UNI) The Philippines has detected three additional monkeypox (mpox) cases, bringing the country’s total number of active mpox cases to eight, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Sunday.

Philippine Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said the three new cases include men aged 29 and 34 from Metro Manila and a 29-year-old male from a region south of Manila.

Like the five mpox patients the DOH reported earlier, Herbosa said the new patients had the milder MPXV clade II.

With the new detection of mpox cases, DOH spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo said the Philippines has now tallied 17 cases since July 2022.

“Nine cases have long recovered since 2023. Eight are active cases waiting for symptoms to resolve,” Domingo added.

Domingo said the DOH would continue tracing the people who have close contact with the active patients.
