Chandigarh, Oct 17 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Chief Ministers’ Council meeting here to discuss development issues including upcoming assembly polls.
Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of the BJP and NDA ruled states attended the meeting to deliberate on development issues, the ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ of the Constitution and the 50th anniversary year of the “attempt to murder” democracy, which is a reference to Emergency imposed in 1975.
The meeting also considered, significant as the Election Commission had announced the assembly polls schedule for Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
Senior leaders Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and BJP President JP Nadda were also present in the meeting.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, two Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Goa CM Pramod Sawant were also present the meeting.
The meeting started after the swearing-in ceremony of Nayab Singh Saini as the Haryana Chief Minister for the second consecutive term.
With the BJP and its allies set to take on the Opposition alliance in next month’s Maharashtra and Jharkhand polls, the ruling bloc is looking to draw momentum from its Haryana win to charge at its rivals.
Many believed that the meeting was called to showcase the NDA’s strength ahead of assembly elections and allies set to take on the opposition alliance after getting momentum from the Haryana assembly victory.
