Port Louis/New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at the Ganga Talao in Mauritius today, and also poured holy water brought from the Triveni Sangam at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.
Amid the chanting of hymns by Hindu priests, the blowing of conch shells and ringing of prayer bells, the PM was seen pouring oblations into the Ganga Talao lake. He also performed an aarti with lighted lamp, along with some other priests.
Many Mauritians had gathered to catch a glimpse of the Indian Prime Minister at Ganga Talao. Amid a steady drizzle, the Mauritians shouted “Modi, Modi” slogans, with many of them waving saffron flags.
The PM said in a post on X:
“It was a very emotional feeling to return to Ganga Talao in Mauritius. Standing by its sacred waters, one could feel the deep spiritual connection that transcends borders, binding generations of people to their roots.”
The MEA spokesperson said in a post:

“PM @narendramodi offered prayers at the revered Ganga Talao in Mauritius today, and immersed the holy water from the Triveni Sangam at the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
“The offerings meaningfully symbolize the shared devotion, cultural affinity and sacred ties between India and Mauritius.”
A statement said: “Prime Minister’s gesture of bringing the holy water from the revered Mahakumbh Mela to Ganga Talao signifies not only the spiritual unity between the two nations, but also their commitment to preserve and nurture the rich traditions that form the foundation of their shared cultural ties.”
Ganga Talao, commonly known as Grand Bassin, is a crater lake situated in a secluded mountain area in the district of Savanne, in the heart of Mauritius. It is about 550 m above sea level, and is considered the most sacred Hindu place in Mauritius. It is surrounded by temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman.
