PM Modi, Sri Lankan President Anura Dissanayake sit down for talks

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday warmly received Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at Hyderabad House as the two sides sat down for talks on trade, investment, development and security cooperation.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal in a post on X said:

“Fostering strong ties with India’s closest maritime neighbour.

“PM @narendramodi warmly received President @anuradisanayake of Sri Lanka at Hyderabad House.

“An extensive agenda encompassing trade, investment, development and security cooperation will be discussed.”

Earlier, the visiting Sri Lankan President was accorded a ceremonial welcome and guard of honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The MEA spokesperson posted on X:

“Welcoming a civilisational partner!

President @anuradisanayake of Sri Lanka receives a ceremonial welcome & Guard of Honour on his maiden State Visit to India.

“President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn and PM @narendramodi greeted President @anuradisanayake at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.”

This is the first overseas visit undertaken by President Dissanayake after his assumption of office.

Following the talks, the two sides are to Exchange Agreements and the two leaders will make Press Statements.

In the evening, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will call on the Sri Lankan President at Hotel ITC Maurya.

Later in the evening, the Sri Lankan President will meet with President Droupadi Murmu at ashtrapati Bhawan.

President Dissanayake will also participate in a business event in Delhi to promote investment and commercial linkages between India and Sri Lanka.

He will visit Bodh Gaya as part of the visit.

He arrived on Sunday evening on a three-day state visit.

EAM S Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval called on the Sri Lankan president at the hotel and held talks with him.
