As many as 30 people died including 26 school children and ten others sustained injuries when a private school bus carrying about 40 children skidded off the road and fell into a 150 ft deep gorge on Nurpur near Malkval this afternoon.
SDM Nurpur Husain Saddique told agencies that about 30 people including 26 children died in the bus accident and ten others sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to Pathankot and also hospitalized at Nurpur.
A private bus carrying students of Wazir Ram Singh Pathania Memorial School on Pathankot-Nurpur road lost control and skidded of the road and fell in the gorge at 1630 hrs when it carrying 40 student and staff members to drop at their home.
The deceased were identified as 26 school children, one driver and three teacher.While 13 died on the spot, the rest succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.The impact of accident left many with severe injuries who died on the way to hospital.
The ill-fated school bus was carrying about 40 students and staff members the school 1530 hrs and met with accident after one hours on the Nurpur-Chamba border at Mulkval.
Most of deceased belonged ot Khawada village. Local MLA Rakesh Pathania has also reahed the spot.
Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed his deep condolence over the sad demise of school children in the bus accident. He said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered.
Chief minister said that he has asked the Food and Civil Supply Minster Kishan Kapoor to immediately rush to the spot and supervise rescue operation.
State would provided all possible help to the affected family as DC Kangra has been directed to ensure all possible assistance to the victims and speedy rescue operation.
Meanwhile, Governor Acharya Devvrat also expressed his grief over the incident and said, “it was a tragic incident in which innocent school children lost their lives.”He also prayed for peace of the souls of victim children and strength to the bereaved family members.
Transport Minister Govind Thakur and all other members of the state Cabinet have also condoled the death of school children.
Meanwhile, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kishan Kapoor along-with MLA Rakesh Pathania and Deputy Commissioner Kangra Sandeep Kumar reached the spot to supervise rescue and relief operation.
