B'desh shuts down educational institutions due to Corona outbreak


Dhaka,Bangladesh government announced to shut down all its educational institutions till March 31 as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus pandemic in wake of three new positive cases in the country on Monday.Bangladesh's Deputy Education Minister Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury confirmed this to UNI.Coronavirus, which was first detected in the city Wuhan of China, has now spread to over 150 countries and territories around the world.
It has infected over 1,70,000 people and killed 6,526 globally as of Monday.These three new cases have taken the COVID-19 tally to eight in the country.
Meanwhile, Dhaka University authorities have temporarily suspended all the academic activities in the university and advanced its summer vacation. Based on the opinion of 36 teachers, the university has decided to suspend all classes and examinations that were scheduled to be held between March 18 to 28.The number of students in educational institutions in the capital has also been decreasing due to the fear of the SARS-like virus outbreak.Earlier, a section of students from Dhaka University, Bangladesh Agriculture University, BUET and CUET had started boycotting classes and demanded the classes are suspended and universities closed down. University teachers and the guardians of students had also issued separate statements demanding the suspension of classes.
