  • Order came on day of retirement, will now leave post on May 30

Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains will continue to be the CS. The central government has given an extension of 6 months to Bains and now Bains will retire on 30 May.
The ongoing confusion regarding the Chief Secretary in MP has ended. There was a long tussle regarding the extension of the current Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan not only sent a proposal in this matter, but also personally went to Delhi to meet those responsible. Then, at the last moment, the extension of Bains got the green signal.
The names of Iqbal Singh Bains, Anurag Jain and Mohammad Suleman were running at the forefront of the race for the post of CS, the seal was put on the name of Bains.
Initially, after Bains, there was an initiative to make 1989 batch senior officer Anurag Jain as CS. For this, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh had expressed his desire in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Jain the Chief Secretary, on which the PM indicated to find another option instead of Jain. Actually, Jain is leading PM's dream project Gati Shakti Yojana, this project is considered very important for the 2024 elections. With the chances of Jain's return becoming zero, the Chief Minister decided to give extension to the current Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh instead of betting on another name Mohammad Suleman. Sources say that the matter of extension of Bains got stuck in DoPT, in this matter the Chief Minister had to personally discuss with the PM, then on the day of Bains's retirement (November 30) the order was issued to extend his term by 6 months.

Next 6 months of poll year very important
Sources reveal that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given an extension to Iqbal Singh Bains by saying that the next six months of the election year will be very important. In fact, the CM believes that in the next 6 months, important decisions regarding the assembly elections 2023 are to be taken and administrative arrangements are to be made. In such a situation, the posting of the new Chief Secretary may cause problems in coordination. Bains's image has always been that of a strict officer. He is considered to be a tight-fisted officer from the administrative point of view. Because of this, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has made him his first choice. On the recommendation of CM Shivraj, the Modi government gave extension to Iqbal Singh.

Bains is a 1985 batch officer
Before becoming the Chief Secretary, Iqbal Singh Bains has held many important posts. Has worked in departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Energy, Aviation, Excise Commissioner, Panchayat and Rural Development, Parliamentary Affairs. He has also been the collector of Sehore, Khandwa, Guna and Bhopal. He has been Secretary, Principal Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office.
Had he not got the extension from the Centre, Bains would have retired on Wednesday. He had canceled all the proposed meetings on Wednesday.
