Cong appoints former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal as party Treasurer


New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) Former Union Minister and senior leader Pawan Kumar Bansal was appointed as the Interim Treasurer of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal, in a statement issued here on Saturday, said that the party president Sonia Gandhi has assigned the additional responsibility of AICC treasurer (Interim) to Pawan Kumar Bansal with immediate effect.

The post fell vacant after the death of veteran Congress leader and sitting Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat Ahmed Patel, who died on November 25.

Mr Bansal, who was railway minister in the UPA-2, is also the party In-Charge of Administration.

Mr Bansal extended his gratitude to Ms Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for reposing the faith in him.

"I am extremely grateful to Hon’ble Congress President and Sh @RahulGandhi for reposing confidence and trust in me and assign the additional responsibility of Treasurer, AICC," Mr Bansal tweeted.
