Cyclone Amphan to cause heavy rainfall over Odisha, WB

Super Cyclonic Storm Amphan was located near 14.8N, 86.5E on Monday, at 23:30 IST, with a max wind speed of 240 kmph, gust 290 kmph. It has moved north-northeastward at 15 kmph during the early hours of Tuesday.

Amphan is set to move northnortheastward, towards north Bay of Bengal on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is expected to retain its Super Cyclonic Storm intensity until Wednesday morning, and weaken into an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm over northeast Bay of Bengal on Wednesday noon. Amphan could make landfall around the west coast of Gangetic West Bengal on Wednesday evening with Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm intensity.

It is expected to pass over West Bengal on Wednesday evening to night, and Bangladesh on Thursday. AMPHAN will weaken into a Deep Depression over Bangladesh on Thursday morning. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted over Odisha, with heavy showers also likely over West Bengal on Tuesday.
