Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and Congressmen could not reach Rameshwar Sharma’s residence on Wednesday to perform Ramdhun as police closed all the roads leading to Sharma’s house.
The police closed all the three roads leading to Rameshwar Sharma's residence by putting up barricades. The road leading from the Yuva Sadan to the Vidhan Sabha, the MLA Rest House and the roads leading to the Raj Bhavan were closed by putting up barricades. Commuters also had to face a lot of hardship as roads were closed.
As per his announcement, Singh planned to undertake a padyatra to ruling Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Rameshwar Sharma’s local residence where he planned to take part in Ramdhun. But he and other Congress workers were stopped by police on way to Sharma’s house.
Earlier, the Minto Hall in Bhopal echoed with Ramdhun as a large number of Congressmen sung the song following a call by former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh. Singh had announced a couple of days back to reach BJP MLA and former protem speaker Rameshwar Sharma’s residence near MLA rest house to recite Ramdhun in reply to Sharma’s remark to break the knees of Congress workers.
In his appeal to BJP workers in a programme in his Assembly Constituency, Sharma had reportedly said ‘Congressi Dikhen to ghutna tod do.’
After a video of Sharma’s statement went viral on social media, Singh dared Sharma to break his knee. He said he would respond to violence with non-violence and would recite Ramdhun at Sharma’s residence. He would not react if someone from BJP would break his knees, Singh had tweeted.
In response to Singh’s announcement, Sharma has made an arrangement for Ramdhun recitation and also for breakfast at his residence. In view of high political drama expected to take place, the security in the area was beefed up and additional police force was deployed.

On Wednesday, Digvijaya Singh along with Congress leaders proceeded from Gandhi statue located in Minto Hall towards the house of MLA Rameshwar Sharma. Digvijaya stopped near the barricading done 200 meters from Rameshwar Sharma's house. Asked the police if he could go ahead, the police refused. After this he sat on the road for half an hour and sang bhajan and returned.
On the news of Digvijaya Singh's arrival, MLA Sharma along with his supporters came out. Sitting inside the gate, everyone started the hymn, when Digvijaya Singh returned, Rameshwar Sharma said – Digvijaya is not coming to sing Ramdhun. He went somewhere else after saying he would recite Ramdhun. I am sitting waiting for him. Here halwa-puri is also made. Who is stopping him? Ram's court was held here.
Earlier, Digvijaya Singh tweeted that the BJP MLA had kneeled in front of the Congressmen. Former CM Digvijaya Singh tweeted that BJP men and Sanghis... sit with us and sing Ramdhun. Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Patit pavan Sitaram... Ishwar Allah tero naam.
