Every state in northeast to have mega food parks soon: Minister


New Delhi,  Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday saidthe Government is in the process of setting up Mega food parks in all the eight northeastern states of the country.Besides, preserving and processing products, the food parks will also provide wider employment opportunities, she stated.Responding to supplementaries during Question Hour, Ms Badal said the Centre has approved 43 projects related to fruits and food processing. The northeastern region also play an important role in the filed of organic food.The Centre, she said, is very serious about the projects as it would not only generate employment but enable food products reach other parts of the country. One mega food park provides employment to 5,000 people, the Minister added.
Barring Sikkim, the construction of food parks has started in all the states. Difficulty in availability of land in Sikkim is making things little difficult there, she said.
In reply to another supplementary question, Ms Badal said 19 projects related to cold chain and agri value addition have been approved in Uttar Pradesh. This state excels in the production of food grains and fruits.  The government is trying to launch food processing projects related to it, she said.
