Central Chronicle Bhopal-Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel has planted 80 sandalwood saplings in Pachmarhi Raj Bhavan complex.
It may be noted that Indian sandalwood is the rated the best in the world. The height of this tree ranges between 18 to 20 meters. It starts emitting fragrance when it becomes a ten year old tree. Its leaves, roots, seeds etc. are all utilized fully. Two main species of sandalwood, red and white sandalwood are found. Red sandalwood is less fragrant while the white one is very aromatic.
The sandalwood tree is of great economic importance. Its wood is used in making sculptures, decorative items and other products, incense sticks, havan samagri and in aromatic oils.
