The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Monday termed the involvement of the Central government and state administration in the August 5 Bhoomi Poojan ceremony to build a Ram temple in Ayodhya a "violation of the Constitution" and said such action went against the Supreme Court's decision.
The CPI (M) Polit Bureau in a statement issued here said the apex court had said in its judgment that the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya would be a trust. Therefore, the inclusion of a high-level person like Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony "is against the spirit of the Supreme Court and the Constitution".
The party also regretted that though the Supreme Court judgment had termed the Babri Masjid demolition incident on December 6, 1992 as a crime, the Central government has so far acted to give legal sanctity to the demolition instead of punishing the culprits.
The party also said the ceremony was taking place at a time when the Corona pandemc was spreading in the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued guidelines for its prevention and prohibited religious gatherings, and amid news reports of priests and policemen in Ayodhya being Covid-infected. Crowds posed a risk of people getting infected with the Coronavirus, it pointed out.
Apart from the constitutional values ??of secularism and justice, the CPI (M) appealed to the people to follow guidelines and precautionary measures issued for the prevention of Corona infection and not to use religious sentiments to fulfill political interests.
