IPL to start from March 27


Mumbai, Jan 22 (UNI) The 2022 Indian Premier League is expected to begin on March 27 and run till May end. The decision was taken in a meeting between BCCI officials and owners of 10 franchises on Saturday.

The tournament will take place in India, with Mumbai as its main venue. And if the Covid-19 cases decrease then Ahmedabad could host the play-offs.

However, if the Covid-related situation is found to be not feasible to host the IPL in India then the UAE and South Africa will be considered as the back-up options, ESPNcricinfo reported.

The final decision is expected by February 20.

Earlier on January 22, the IPL announced that a total of 1214 players (896 Indian and 318 overseas) have signed up to be part of the upcoming mega auction.

The two-day auction will see 10 teams bidding for some of the finest talents in world cricket. The players' list incorporates 270 capped, 903 uncapped and 41 associate players.

A total of 33 Players have been retained or picked ahead of the auction.

The existing eight franchises have retained a total of 27 players while the two new teams have picked 6 players ahead of the auction.
