New Delhi (UNI)

India on Friday witnessed the largest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases with 6,088 fresh infections being registered in the past 24 hours, pushing the tally of infections to 1,18,447, as per the Union Health Ministry.

As many as 6,088 new cases and 148 deaths were reported over the past 24 hours, the figures revealed, adding that the total includes 66,330 active cases, 48,553 cured, discharged, or migrated patients, and 3,583 deaths. The overall recovery rate is continuously improving and has crossed 40 per cent now.

As many as 3,234 patients have been cured since yesterday taking the total number of recovery cases to 48,533. Maharashtra continues to be the epicentre of the coronavirus spread as it accounts for more than one-third of the total infection cases. In the last 24 hours, 2,345 new cases have been reported in the state, pushing its tally to 41,642 with 1,454 deaths and 11,726 patients cured and discharged.

One of the challenges in the state is controlling the disease contamination in Asia’s biggest slum — Dharavi, also an extremely denselypopulated region. Having ranked second on the list, Tamil Nadu has recorded 13,967 infections and 94 deaths so far. “6,282 corona patients have ben discharged across the state,” the health ministry update informed.
