Kamal Nath leaves for Delhi after called by Sonia

  •   Speculation rife whether he could be handed over party’s reins or will mediate in Rajasthan

Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal
Before the election of the National President of Congress and the filing of nomination by Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, there is a political uproar. Meanwhile, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has called former MP CM Kamal Nath to Delhi. Kamal Nath has left for Delhi in the afternoon as soon as Sonia Gandhi's message is received. After this development on Monday morning, there was speculation in the political circles whether Nath could be handed over the reins of the Congress. However, it has also come to the fore that Kamal Nath has been called for damage control in Rajasthan.
Congress sources say that the tussle between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot in Rajasthan has put the high command in tension. In Rajasthan, the MLAs of the Gehlot faction have resigned. After this Kamal Nath's name can be put forward for Congress President. After the meeting of Sonia and Kamal Nath, some picture is expected to be clear today.

Parallel meeting
The development came a day after a legislative party meeting was scheduled on Sunday evening at the residence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the presence of observers for the state which included Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken, and was attended by Sachin Pilot and his camp MLAs. However, the Gehlot loyalists had held a meeting with Cabinet Minister Shanti Dhariwal at his residence, following which over 90 MLAs had submitted their resignations to Speaker CP Joshi.
Ajay Maken on Monday termed the "parallel" meeting called by state Minister Shanti Dhariwal at his residence on Sunday an "indiscipline move" while also stating that the party has never allowed "conditional resolutions" to take place, as against the demands by the group.

G-23 also agreed on Nath's name
Ashok Gehlot, who is considered to be the most prominent contender for Congress President, is also being held responsible for the political crisis in Rajasthan. In such a situation, this message is going out in the whole country that if a leader who has failed to handle the crisis of his own party in his state while being the CM of Rajasthan, is made Congress President, then the situation may worsen in the coming time. If Congress leaders are to be believed, now other names are being considered in place of Ashok Gehlot. In the midst of a sudden situation, the name of Kamal Nath can be put forward. If sources are to be believed, the leaders of G-23 also agree in the name of Kamal Nath.

Digvijaya Singh himself is also in the race for the post of president. However, he has also said to leave the final decision on the Congress leadership.

Diggy's pressure changed circumstances
In an interview, Digvijaya Singh had told himself to be involved in this race, although he also talked about leaving the final decision to the Congress leadership and Sonia-Rahul. Digvijaya Singh said many times to follow the one person one post formula. After constant pressure, Ashok Gehlot publicly said that he is ready to leave the post of CM, but next time a leader who can bring back the government in Rajasthan should be made CM. After which a political crisis arose in Rajasthan. Apart from Gehlot, the discussion of other names has also intensified after telling himself that he was helpless in handling this crisis.

Kamal Nath most trusted in times of crisis
This is not the first time that the Gandhi family has made Kamal Nath a troubleshooter on an important occasion. 3 months ago, the Congress had entrusted the responsibility of saving the Uddhav government of Maharashtra from political crisis to senior leader Kamal Nath. The party has made him an observer with the responsibility of damage control. He had also reached Mumbai from Bhopal, where he met Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar. However, later Uddhav Thackeray resigned from the post of Chief Minister and Eknath Shinde, who rebelled from the government, became the CM of Maharashtra. Earlier in 2019, Kamal Nath was also sent to Bengaluru to save the Karnataka government (the coalition government of Congress and JDS).
Kamal Nath has old family ties with the Gandhi family. He is said to be the third son of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Why so much trust on Kamal Nath?
After the death of the Gandhi family's most trusted Motilal Vora and Ahmed Patel in the Congress, the party has only Kamal Nath left as a 'trustworthy political messenger'. Political experts believe that Kamal Nath has done politics at the center for 40 years. Congress wants to take advantage of his experience. Actually, many other strong leaders are in the Congress, but after the G-23 came into existence, their hold has definitely weakened. Apart from this, Kamal Nath's relationship with the Gandhi family is family since the time of Indira Gandhi, that is why he is called Indira's third son.
