Lok Sabha adjourned till 1200 hrs over Delhi riots

New Delhi, Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 1200 hrs on Tuesday after Opposition uproar over the Delhi violence which claimed 46 lives. As soon as the House assembled for the day, the Opposition, including Congress, All India Trinamool Congress(AITC), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, protested over the riots seeking a discussion on the matter. Speaker Om Prakash Birla said an all-party meet has decided to take action against any member (irrespective of the party) who leaves his seat during the functioning of the House. He will be suspended for the remaining session. Smooth functioning of the House is possible only with the cooperation of all, he added. Countering him, Leader of Congress Adhir Ranjan Choudhary said, 'Since we are people's representatives, we have the right to take up issues pertaining to them?. How can we sit quiet when violence of such a huge magnitude has rocked the National Capital and the death toll is mounting.' AITC member Sudeep Bandopadhyay said such a situation arises only when the government fails to give satisfactory replies on important issues. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said discussions on any matter is possible only if there is peace in House. 'We should respect the decision of all-party meeting and take up the Delhi violence matter at 1200 hrs'. The opposition created a ruckus over this. Pacifying the agitating members, the Speaker urged them not to bring placards into the House but to no avail. When the chaos continued, the Speaker adjourned the House till 1200 hrs.
