MPSEC announces panchayat polls


Bhopal, Dec 4 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission announced on Saturday that panchayat polls will be conducted in three phases in the state’s 52 districts.
“The electorate shall exercise its franchise through the medium of electronic voting machines at 71,398 polling centres; each of which will have a presiding officer and four polling officers who shall be from adjoining development blocks. The deadline for conclusion of campaigning will be 48 hours prior to voting, which shall be conducted from 0700-1500 hrs. A total 55,000 EVMs will be utilised for village panchayat polls, including one reserve EVM each. Counting shall take place at district centres,” Election Commissioner Basant Pratap Singh said during a press conference here.
