NCW chairperson welcomes hanging of Nirbhaya killers

New Delhi,NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma on Friday welcomed the early morning hanging of the four Nirbhaya case convicts at Tihar Jail after a gruelling more than seven year delay, saying an example has been set today that and the message had gone that justice was inevitable.
"An example has been set today though it could have been done earlier. Now people know that they will be punished, you may extend the date but you will get punished," the National Commission of Women chairperson said after the four convicts were executed this morning.'Referring to the more than seven year long gruelling journey for Nirbhaya's parents, she hoped that this would prove a deterrent against others committing such grisly crimes against women, and in case they were committed, the delay would be overcome with a fast track court case.

Today's hanging in the horrific December 16, 2012 gang rape and murder case "could have been done earlier also" but "now such people know that they will be punished, the date may be delayed, but punishment will be meted out," she said in her reaction. The entire nation was shaken on December 16, 2012, 'when a 23-year-old paramedic was brutally ganged -raped by the convicts in a moving bus. Tens of thousands of students took to the streets, putting pressure on the then UPA government to act swiftly.
