Rape case: Apex court rejects plea to cancel bail to Chinmayanand


New Delhi, Affirming that substantial protection has been granted to the victim, the Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to cancel bail granted by Allahabad High Court to ex-Union Minister Swamy Chinmayanand, indicted for allegedly raping a law student in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh.A bench, headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan, however, acceded to hear the plea for transfer of trial from Lucknow to Delhi."We are refusing to cancel the bail granted by Allahabad High Court to Swamy Chinmayanand, in an alleged rape case against a law student in Shahjahanpur," ruled the bench. Apex Court dismissed an appeal filed by the victim's father against an Allahabad High Court order, granting bail to the Bharatiya Janata Party politician.
