Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) The equity market kept its supremacy for the sixth consecutive session on Thursday, as the BSE Sensex closed at life-time high at 61,305.95, advancing 568.90 points following strong performance showed by Infosys and Wipro in Q2, along with hopes of a better-than-anticipated economic recovery.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too, rallied by 176.80 pts at 18,338.55.
The day opened on a strong note as the Sensex surged 351 pts, breaching the 61,000-level at 61,088.82. During the day it zoomed 616 points at 61,353.25, the day's high before closing at 61,305.95, up by 568.90 points from its previous close.
The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 61,353.25 and 60,978.04 points respectively.
The Nifty recorded the day's high and low at 18,350.75 and 18,248.70 pts respectively.
The sectoral indices that soared were Bankex, Capital Goods, Metal and Realty stocks.
In scrips, HDFC Bank was a major gainer up by more than 3 per cent followed by ITC, Powergrid, ICICI Bank, L & T and NTPC.
Selling in HCL Technology, TCS, Bajaj Finance and Asian Paints restricted from further gains, a broker said.
The Mid Cap rose by 0.54 per cent and Small Cap by 0.46 per cent.
