Aanchal Thakur bags India's first Skiing Medal


New Delhi, Aanchal Thakur has scripted history after winning India's first-ever international medal in skiing in the coveted Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup organised by the Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) in Turkey. The Manali resident on Tuesday clinched bronze in the in the slalom race category. Aanchal also shared her achievement on her Twitter account saying,"Finally something unexpected happened. My first ever international medal. Federation International Ski Race (FIS). At the end turkey served me well." Her father Roshan Thakur, who is the secretary general of the Winter Games Federation of India (WGFI), however, was dissatisfied from the government for not acknowledging skiing as a sport. Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore also congratulated Aanchal on winning India’s first international medal in skiing.
