Aircel-Maxis case takes new turn


New Delhi,The Supreme Court on Monday decided to hear tomorrow a fresh plea filed by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy seeking to implead himself as a party in connection with a petition filed by one Rajneesh Kapoor,against an Enforcement Directorate officer probing the Aircel-Maxis deal case.The ED officer, Rajeshwar Singh, was investigating the case. A vacation bench, headed by Justice Arun Kumar Misra and also comprising Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, also agreed to hear the plea of ED officer Rajeshwar Singh seeking contempt proceedings be initiated against the persons concerned for allegedly trying to stop or stop the ongoing probe in the Aircel-Maxis deal case. Swamy has sought the apex court's direction to make himself a party in the fresh plea filed by Kapur against the ED official. The Supreme Court had earlier set a deadline of six months for the Central Bureau of Investigation and the ED to complete the probe into the alleged irregularities in Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval given in the Aircel-Maxis deal case in which former finance minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti have been questioned.
