After incurring losses of upto Rs.5 crore per day the previous term BJP Government closed down its bus operation in the state and gave the route rights to private transporters to run their bus services on contract.
Under the spell of nationlization the Congress Government of Pandit DP Mishra nationalized all the bus routes and formed Madhya Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. It proved disastrous and state returned to private bus transportation.
But the MPSRTC yet not fully paid off its staff despite its closure. Now State Government again decided to run state buses under ‘Amrit Yojna’ and the Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi will inaugurate it on June 23 at Indore.
The state will purchase the buses and will get it operated by private transporters. It appears to be a strange way of operation. It is both public and private bus service.
It is like giving the buses to private transportation on rent or on lease. The Amrit Yojna neither wholly state nor private transport. It appears to be another state experiment in public transport.
