Atal Bihari Vajpayee


Country’s veteran and stalwart leader the former Prime Minister Mr.Atal Bihari Vajpayee after putting up stiff brave fight against the death passed away at 5.05 in the evening at the AIIMS Hospital of New Delhi on August 16 of 2018. He was admitted there sometime back for the ailment of kidney, urine and chest infection. He was there on life support system under the team of doctors led by Dr.Gularia of AIIMS. He was born on 25th December in 1924 at Gwalior and died on August 16 in 2018 at the age of 94 years at Delhi. Strict security measures are taken at the AIIMS hospital, his residence at 6 Krishna Menon Marg and at the central office of the BJP in Delhi. The Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi, Party President Mr.Amit Shah, his niece Mr.Karuna Shukla, nephew Mr.Anup Mishra and all family members were at the bed side when he breathed his last. Mr.Vajpayee was closely connected with Madhya Pradesh. Besides his birth at Gwalior he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Gwalior and Vidisha. In 1999 he contested from two seats Vidisha from Madhya Pradesh and Lucknow from Uttar Pradesh and was elected from both the seat. He vacated Vidisha and in bye-election Mr.Shivraj Singh Chouhan as his political successor contested from Vidisha and elected and with this his electoral politics started and now he is Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister. Mr.Vajpayee entered the Government at the Centre in 1977 Janata wave and was foreign minister in the Janata Party Government of Prime Minister Mr.Morarji Desai. Mr.Vajpayee for the first time spoke in Hindi at the United Nations General Assembly to place Hindi at a high pedestal in the world forum. He was 10 time member of the Lok Sabha and twice Rajya Sabha member. He joined the Bhartiya Jan Sangh in 1971 now renamed as Bhartiya Janata Party. He was Party President from 1968 to 1973. He was journalist and poet. He was thrice Prime Minister of India. For the first time as 13th Prime Minister from 16 May to 1st June in 1996 of the coalition government, but he could not secure majority and resigned. For the second time he became 16th Prime Minister of the NDA Coalition in 19th March 1998 to 13th October 1999. One of the coalition party Anna DMK of Jayalalitha withdrew support in between and is Government lost by one vote on the voting of no-confidence motion. For the third time he became 17th Prime Minister of the NDA coalition in 13th October 1999 and 21st May 2004 and completed full five years term at the office of Prime Minister. In 2004 election the NDA was defeated by the Congress led UPA. As Prime Minister Mr.Vajpayee initiated bus diplomacy by visiting Pakistan by bus from Amritsar to Lahore Summit meet with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. It become known later that Pakistan Army Chief General Musharaff was not on good term with Nawaz Sharif and for his humiliation he launched Kargil attack in India to frustrate Lahore Summit achievement. The Pakistan suffered worst defeat in Kargil. General Musharaff staged a military coup in Pakistan and become military Ruler. He came to Agra to hold talks with Prime Minister Mr.Vajpayee and talks failed to come to any agreement. Mr.Vajpayee commanded respect widely and in all the parties. He was the man who had friends and no foes. He was most humble and polished in his behavior and jolly nature. He was very sensitive on human consideration. He expressed deep anguish when a dalit bridegroom was pulled down from the house back by the so-called high caste persons. He was not married. He adopted the daughter Namita who is married to Ranjan Bhathacharjee.Mr.Vajpayee was given Bharat Ratna, highest national decoration in 2014 and earlier in 1994 he was awarded outstanding Member of Parliament title. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi carried out first nuclear test in Rajasthan and 2nd was carried by the Prime Minister Mr.Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He rejected the US pressure on the test. For some time the US stopped aid to India.
