“Beating the Retreat” concluded in presence of Governor


Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal The ‘Beating the Retreat’ concluded in the presence of the Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel at the concluding of Republic Day Celebrations programme at Motilal Nehru stadium. Presentation of concert, march past and group recital was given by the Madhya Pradesh Brass Band, Police Pipe Band and Mass Band in the guidance of Director General of Police Rishi Kumar Shukla. It may be mentioned that the Beating the Retreat’ is an old tradition of armed forces and paramilitary forces. When the armed forces used to return to the camp from the war then band playing programme was organized to relieve the stress of war. In India, with this programme the Republic Day’s programmes formally come to an end. The ‘Beating the Retreat’ programme was begun with National Song in honour of Smt. Anandiben Patel at 4.30 p.m. Spell binding musical presentations of Hindi and English classical tunes and presentations of 11 old Hindi films were given by the Police Brass band. Band wise group presentation was given by the 3 bands while doing the march past. At the end of the programme, the band gave group presentation on the tune of ‘Sare Jahan se Achcha’ while doing the march past. An attractive firework show held after the National Song. The following presentations were given by the Police Brass Band this year:- Spanish Gypsy Dance, Spanish Tune; Aao Huzur, Hindi Film Song; El Bimbo, Spanish Tune; Raag Bhupali, Indian Classical; Aa… Jaane Ja, Hindi Film Music; Hansta Hua Noorani Chehra, Hindi Film Music; Over the Waves, Waltz; Pukarta Chala Hun Mein, Hindi Film Music; The Last of Mohicans, The Last of Mohicans Film Music; Mere Rashke Kamar, Hindi Film Music; The Final Countdown, European song sung by Joey Tempest. Musical presentation by Police band led by Syed Banne Ahmed, Brass band led by Sunil Katare, Army Pipe band led by Hawaldar Soham Singh and Massed band were given. Chief Secretary Basant Pratap Singh, Special Director General of Police K.N. Tiwari, Additional Director General of Police S.L. Thousen, other Additional Director Generals of Police, Senior Officers, retired Police Officers, and citizens in large number enjoyed the musical evening of ‘Beating the Retreat’ programme. Attractive fireworks were displayed till the end of the programme.
