Bhaiyyu Maharaj dies after suffering gunshot


Agencies, Indore, MP, Spiritual leader Uday Singh Deshmukh, widely known as Bhaiyyu Maharaj, died today after suffering a gunshot wound. Bhaiyyu Maharaj was earlier admitted to a private hospital in serious condition. The hospital management said that he succumbed to his wound later. Meanwhile, family sources said that Bhaiyyu Maharaj had shot himself. Deputy Inspector General of Police HC Mishra confirmed that Bhaiyyu Maharaj took his own life at his residence here. He shot himself on his right temple. The body was sent for post-mortem.A team of forensic experts reached his house and began investigation. Bhaiyyu Maharaj started his career through modeling but later decided to walk the spiritual path. His followers included well-known celebrities including Lata Mangeshkar. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former president Pratibha Patil and other famous personalities had visited his ‘ashram.’ Bhaiyyu Maharaj shot to limelight when he was sent by the then United Progressive Alliance Government as an ambassador during social activist Anna Hazare’s agitation for ending his fast. Following the death of his wife, Bhaiyyu Maharaj married a doctor in 2016. He was accorded the status of Minister of State by the Madhya Pradesh regime recently. Chauhan condoles Bhaiyyuji Maharaj’s death Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday offered his condolences to spiritual leader Bhayyuji Maharaj, who allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his Indore residence. Chauhan described Bhayyuji as a person, who was a confluence of culture, knowledge and selfless service. “My tribute to saint Bhayyuji Maharaj. The country has lost a person who was a confluence of culture, knowledge and selfless service,” Chauhan wrote on Twitter.
