BJP, Cong members clash in LS, House adjourned till 1300 hrs


New Delhi, A clash erupted between members of treasury and the Congress in the Lok Sabha on Friday over the 'danda remark' made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi forcing Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the House till 1300 hrs.During the Question Hour, after Mr Gandhi rose to ask his question on Health and Family Welfare, Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan said the House must condemn the outlandish remark. 'An outlandish remark was used by Rahul Gandhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I am surprised that his father Rajiv Gandhi has been a prime minister. The whole House should unequivocally condemn the remark,' Dr Vardhan said.

Replying to a debate on Motion of Thanks to the President's Address yesterday, Mr Modi had said, "I heard a Congress leader say that youth will hit Modi with sticks in six months. I have decided that I will increase my frequency of 'Surya Namaskar' so that my back becomes so strong that it can bear the hit of so many sticks." Some Congress members charged towards the treasury bench, agitated over Dr Vardhan's remark.

Union Women and Child Welfare Minister Smriti Irani and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal tried to intervene and placate the members. Mr Gandhi had on Wednesday had told in a rally that in the next six months, the youth will hit Mr Modi with sticks if he doesn’t address the issue of unemployment in the country. "The PM is right now delivering speeches, but six months later, he will not be able to even leave his home," he had said.The Prime Minister on Thursday hit back at Mr Gandhi over his 'danda' jibe, saying he suffered a lot in the last 20 years which had made his back 'danda-proof'. Amid pandemonium, the Speaker adjourned the House till 1300 hrs.
