BJP criticises Navjot Singh Siddhu's spouse for not realising the gravity of lapse

Amritsar Train Tragedy:

New Delhi, When there is a mishap, a statesman's leadership quality comes under test, the Bharatiya Janata Party observed on Monday in a veiled attack on Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of cricketer-turned-Punjab Congress Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. Ms Sidhu had attended a function at Amritsar on Dusshera where a terrible train tragedy killed at least 60 people and injured numerous others. "This was a big tragedy. Looking at the facts, I think she should have taken the matter more sensitively. It is a matter of concern that in front of her, the organisers were taking pride in the fact that about 5,000 people were sitting on the tracks for the function," BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi told reporters here. She cited as illustration how Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a BJP campaigner in Patna in 2013 controlled the crowd after a number of bombs exploded at the venue. "Mr Modi showed courage and managed the huge crowd in a matured manner. Similarly, in another incident when the tent fell in West Bengal, Prime Minister instructed the Special Protection Group personnel to help the people," Ms Lekhi said. Ms Lekhi added that had she been invited to a function where organisers announce that 5,000 people are sitting on rail tracks, "I would have immediately taken the mike from his hand and asked the people to move out....that is not the place to stand.' But, she said, it was a matter of regret that Mrs Sidhu preferred "such statements given out in sycophancy and had not realised that there could be such a major accident.'
