A senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader – who holds the status of a minister of state – in Madhya Pradesh has been booked on molestation charges by an acid-attack victim, police said.
“Madhya Pradesh Silai Kadhai Board Vice-Chairman Rajendra Namdev was called for interrogation on the basis of the victim’s complaint,” Hanumanganj City Superintendent of Police G Adward told UNI over telephone. He said that the BJP leader has lodged a complaint too, alleging that the woman has been instigated by someone to file a complaint against him.
The woman has complained that Mr Namdev molested her at a hotel in November last year. On the other hand, the BJP leader claimed that he had only tried to help the woman, who hails from Seoni.
The allegations against the BJP leader has ignited political temperatures, as it comes at a time when Congress legislator Hemant Katare is facing rape charges and is on the run. A reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced on his arrest.
Meanwhile, State BJP Media Incharge Lokendra Parashar told over telephone that Mr Namdev has been suspended from the primary membership of the party.
Meanwhile, Mr Namdev was today removed from the post of Madhya Pradesh Silai Kadhai Board Vice-Chairman with immediate effect, according to an order issued by the Urban Development and Housing Department.
