BSP ends alliance with SP; to contest UP Assembly bypolls alone : Mayawati


Agencies, New Delhi Announcing the end of alliance with the Samajwadi Party for the time being, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Tuesday said the party would contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly by-elections alone. Addressing a news conference here, she said in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the votes of Samajwadi Party (SP) were not transferred to BSP candidates. 'There was a infighting within the SP. Its leaders have to work at the grassroot level to transfer its vote bank in favor of the BSP,' Ms Mayawati said. 'For this, SP leaders will take a long time, so the BSP has decided to go alone in the upcoming assembly by-elections in Uttar Pradesh,' she said. Talking about her relations with Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav, the BSP chief said the alliance with SP has not been ended at all. if Mr Akhilesh Yadav works better, then we will work together. A meeting had also been convened on Monday to review the BSP performance in the Lok Sabha elections at a party office in Delhi where she instructed the party leaders to prepare for the by-elections.
