Centre releases additional foodgrains for flood affected Kerala


New Delhi, The Centre has decided to release additional foodgrains for floods ravaged Kerala, Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said here on Tuesday. ``The Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs has decided to release 89,540 tonnes of foodgrains for families that are out of the purview of the National Food Security Act,’’ Mr Paswan told mediapersons here. ``With the additional foodgrains of five kilogram per person, the entire state will be covered,’’ the Minister said. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had sought 1.18 lakh tonnes of foodgrains, which is the monthly allocation to the state under the National Food Security Act. Mr Paswan said that 100 tonnes of pulses had already been flown down to the state.In addition, 80 tonnes of pulses are being sent per day to the state, he said.
